What to expect on Your First Visit
Initial Consultation
We advise all new patients to come 10 minutes early for their first visit to allow enough time to fill out a simple medical form.
It is important that all questions are answered honestly, and that you let us know about any medical conditions, habits, or medications you are currently taking. This will ensure that we can give you the best treatment for your individual case, as no two patient cases are the same. The information we ask is vital in the event that we need to prescribe any pain medication or antibiotics following your treatment.
Here are a few procedures that will be done in the initial consultation:
Dental Examination
Examination of the teeth and gums
Charting previous work done like crowns, bridges, fillings and implants
Analysis of tissue in the tongue and cheek, for signs of oral cancer
Evaluation of the jaw joint if necessary
Dental X-Rays
We recommend 2 bite-wing x-rays to be done on your first visit as part of your initial examination to check for any cavities that may not be visible to the naked eye.
In the event that an OPG x-ray needs to be done, we will refer you to an imaging centre, which can be redeemed through Medicare.
Your Treatment Plan
Based on the diagnosis, the dentist will discuss a treatment plan that will be best for you. Some treatments can be carried out in one visit, however more serious cases may need to be spread out over multiple visits. At mydentist, we ensure that only the best treatment is chosen for you and we won’t recommend any treatments we feel are unnecessary.
A regular visit is recommended, at least once in 12 months. If you have not visited your dentist for a while, it is advised that you undergo an initial dental consultation and examination. Give us a call and let us organise a consultation as soon as possible.
